On the Ground in Cancun: Vacation Expectations with Mark Murphy

  • October 25, 2020
  • Kelly Gould

“A picture’s worth 1,000 words.” It’s a familiar expression, and ringing truer now, in the era of social media, than it ever has. But it also begs the question, if one picture, just one, is worth that much, what would a video be worth?

It could be a whole new wave of bookings.

As part of our new Walking on Sunshine initiative, we set out to provide travel advisors with shareable content to help your recovery rise as high as our hopes for the future—and we asked Mark Murphy to lend us a hand.

A pioneer of the industry, travel expert, and president and CEO of travAlliancemedia, we knew Mark would give you and your clients the unfiltered truth about what it’s like to vacation right now, during the pandemic. So he packed his bags and headed to some of our most popular resorts in Cancun, setting his journey to film.

Dreams Vista Cancun Golf & Spa Resort
The first stop in Cancun, this new, gorgeously modern resort leaves a big impression. Even more stunning than the design, however? Their dedication to safety.

Sound Bite: “[…] I noticed as soon as I got to the room the fact that the remote control for the TV and the amenities in the bathroom were in plastic bags that were sealed and sterilized.”

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya
Iberostar’s always been known for their commitment to the guest experience. Now, they’re ensuring it’s as healthy as it is happy.

Sound Bite: “They immediately had their hands sanitized before they were allowed to enter the building. They then ended up getting their temperatures checked. So that means that no one’s gonna come in that’s showing any symptoms whatsoever. Even a mild fever—they’re not going to be permitted to enter the property.”

Riu Dunamar
One of our top picks for families, this Costa Mujeres-area hotel has introduced all-new hygiene guidelines to let kids and parents alike stay and play safely.

Sound Bite: “… They do a temperature check every time you enter the property. So as I sit here, I can figure out, and they can figure out, whether I’ve got something going on. That means that anybody entering the property throughout their entire stay is gonna be okay to go ahead on and enjoy a great vacation.”

With that, our COVID Vacation Expectations miniseries began, broken into three easily digestible episodes. But with more tips from Mark to share, more properties to visit, and more health and safety guidelines to see in action, we’re just getting started.
