Ever wonder what it’s like to be a Minion? Universal Orlando® Resort makes it a whole lot of fun to find out.
The breakaway stars of the Despicable Me films, the Minions are anything but contemptible. Mischievous but well-meaning, silly but sweet, Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and their overall-loving crew haven’t stopped at cinematic success. No, as any good villain would do, they set their sights on grander achievements—like taking over Universal Orlando® Resort.
Since late last summer, the new Minion Land has laid its claim to Universal Studios Florida, taking ownership of an entire street. Illumination Avenue is the stuff of a budding antihero’s dreams, giving off the same atmosphere of serendipitous chaos that makes the little yellow underlings so lovable. From giggle-inducing rides to character meet-and-greets, Universal’s thought of it all to bring the movies to life—and guests into the movies.
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem™
The original Minion ride to grace the park, this laugh-filled tour of Gru’s home features appearances from the too-good-to-be-bad supervillain, his daughters, Margo, Edith, and Agnes, and, of course, the Minions. Keep an eye out for Dave and other faves as you train to become a Minion down in the lab. Things don’t exactly go to plan, though it all ends well, with an impromptu dance party.
Super Silly Fun Land
Once you exit Minion Mayhem™, head straight to this theme-park-within-a-theme-park. Inspired by the carnival where Gru wins Agnes her legendary fluffy unicorn in Despicable Me, here, kids will have a “blast” playing with the 80 interactive water features in the splash area, riding the Silly Swirly spinner, and trying to win prizes of their own (though, sadly, without the help of a Big Blaster Cannon).
Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast
Dropping guests into the fan-favorite Villain-Con from Minions, this video-game-inspired attraction lets you shoot your shot at becoming a bad guy. Work with Belle Bottom, Jean Clawed, and the rest of the Vicious 6 as you use your E-Liminator X blaster to take out the obstacles in the way of your heist. You’ll follow a moving walkway as you go and can connect your gameplay to the Official Universal Orlando Resort App.
Illumination Theater
If you want to get even closer to the characters, this is where you’ll get to meet them face-to-face. Pose for photos with, and possibly grab signatures from, Kevin, Stuart, Bob, Gru and his family, or the characters from fellow Illumination series Sing.
Themed Eats and Treats
After saying your “bello” to the Minions, refuel with a stop at one of the Minion-themed eateries:
- Illumination’s Minion Café, offering Minion-prepared meals like Despica-Bowls, sandwiches, and Bob’s Teddy Bear Chocolate Cream Puff, plus a Mini Minion kids menu (Pro tip: Order for pick-up in advance to skip the line)
- Bake My Day, a walk-in bakery serving up themed cupcakes, macarons, and cookies
- Freeze Ray Pops, the perfect place to cool off with a popsicle
- Pop-A-Nana, a popcorn kiosk where you can go sweet or savory with your snack
Once you’ve filled up, get a treat of another kind at Evil Stuff (also easy to visit after riding Minion Blast) or Super Silly Stuff for a Minion-approved souvenir.
More Universal Magic
With all the hijinks and entertainment of Minion Land, you’ll be in no rush to leave—but there’s a whole lot left to explore, thanks to Universal’s three theme parks. Don’t miss Springfield, U.S.A, inspired by The Simpsons, or Diagon Alley™, from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, before you head out from Universal Studios Florida to either Universal Islands of Adventure or Universal Volcano Bay. Raptors, superheroes, and the Krakatau Volcano offer plenty of thrills.
Park-to-Park and 2-Park or 3-Park tickets give you the flexibility to plan out each day on top of savings over what you’d pay buying a separate ticket for each day. Plus, advisors can loop you in to promotions like two days’ admission free with a 2-Park ticket, maximizing your budget. Talk to your travel advisor about which option works for you; for the best value, stay at a hotel on site to benefit from early access and other exclusives.
However you decide to do Universal, don’t forget one essential: packing your favorite pair of jean overalls … and your sense of mischief!
