Rooms with Waterways
Across the property, there are 500 accommodations, designed with Taino heritage and destination-centric views in mind. In addition to their large, well-equipped rooms that offer some kind of outdoor access via balcony or patio, there are also swim-up suites, Club Azure room categories with enhanced amenities, and, the crème de la crème, 20 freestanding beachfront bungalows that range from studio to two-bedroom layouts.
Each of these bungalows offer direct swim-up access to individual plunge pools that connect to a winding waterway, allowing guests to swim seamlessly to various areas of the resort. Water-lovers can leave land behind to wade from area to area for a truly unique way to get around the grounds.
Pre-Hispanic Cuisine
The décor isn’t the only way the resort pays homage to the people who lived here first. Many of its six distinct restaurants incorporate native ingredients and traditional cooking methods provides guests with a look at how the locale informs their culinary program. Anacaona specifically focuses on the food of the Taino people and Yuca emphasizes live-fire cooking from across the Caribbean, while Guacete, the food hall, makes sure regional representation is apparent. Even Manicato, the Italian restaurant, and Boba, the Thai venue, benefit from a local-first approach.
For Club Azure and bungalow guests, there’s also the vintage-inspired The Royal Palm on the rooftop overlooking Playa Esmeralda as an additional drink and dining option that offers a sense pf place, plus Ciba, which offers light Caribbean bites and cocktails. And for bungalow guests only, Jagua, the jungle-inspired restaurant, spotlights seafood fished from just off the coast.
A Swell Spa
The wellness area also takes its respectful cue from the Taino civilization that made Dominican Republic and the Caribbean what it is today. Here, you can experience ancestral ceremonies and therapies that are evolutions of ancient traditions as well as products, technology, and services that reflect current advancements. Facilities include ten treatment rooms, a beauty salon, indoor pool, sauna, jetted tub, and even an outdoor terrace for yoga and medication. The outdoor coed hydrotherapy circuit, located in the water garden, is also a draw.
Nearby is a state of the art fitness center with modern cardio equipment and a schedule of group classes, plus access to non-motorized water sports if you prefer to work out in the wild.
Water Fun for Everyone
While a day at the spa is more of a special highlight, the daily draws are the four pools and on-site water park, all of which are laid out to give families easy access to that attraction and kid-friendly activities. Three slides let guests choose their speed and style.
And, of course, there’s the actual beach, Playa Esmeralda, which is just about an hour away from the PUJ international airport, and shockingly secluded, tranquil, and intimate for being so convenient.
